How Does a Paternity Test Work?
A paternity test is based on the principals
of DNA. Genetic paternity testing identifies the unique genetic
profile of an individual. A child gets one half of his/her genetic
makeup
from the mother
and
the
other half from the biological father.
By comparing the child’s genetic profile with that of the
alleged father, a Paternity Test determines whether this person
is the real biological father. In the laboratory, DNA is extracted from the samples sent to the
lab. The DNA samples are compared side-by-side. The lab looks for
matches. If the man tested is the biological father of the tested
child, his probability of paternity will be 99% or higher.
